Sacred Band of Thebes
Men.com and director Alter Sin blend various legends around gladiators and the legendary band of warrior-lovers of the title for this costumed epic. Cast member Francois Sagat is the 2019 XBIZ winner for Performer of the Year, and he is terrific, as usual, but William Seed walks away with MVP honors from a very strong cast.
Special kudos to the effective, highly unusual use (for gay porn) of animation, accompanied by voice over narration by Paddy O’Brien, to set the scene. Sin makes good use of his locations, including outdoor shoots. The flesh-baring leather costumes, props and set dressing effectively set the scene without overdoing it.
JJ Knight and William Seed pledge their loyalty to each other — Knight offers his “sword” — and they are both prepped and prepared by male slaves for a passionate fuck session. Both men are typically low-key, still-waters-run-deep types but Seed’s passion meshes quite nicely with Knight. The deep kissing and blowjobs are tasty and Knight’s thick, plus-sized python sliding all the way down to the root inside Seed’s plush, muscular ass is a sight indeed.
Sagat and Ryan Bones grapple inside a training ring for the warriors, done up in gladiator gear while colleagues swing their swords nearby. They’re both burly and packed with muscle with stoic demeanors. Their sexplay has the erotic tension of two alpha-dominant performers, but Sagat typically relaxes when a stud that knows what he’s doing is fucking him. Watch the expressions of deep pleasure that cross his handsome face when Bones is pile-driving his plush butt.
The pairing of vet performers Diego Sans and D.O. creates an eye-popping display of male beauty that virtually steals the movie. D.O.’s career as a fashion model has run parallel to his storied career in adult – although he hasn’t been seen onscreen in quite some time – and it shows. He understands how to work his angles and hold a camera. Sans plays a gladiator who demands his freedom and proves his worthiness by fucking his commanding officer. Although Sans – whose trim, furred physique and thick, tousled curls are delectable – is the topman, D.O. is fully in charge. He smirks knowingly as he sucks cock and allows himself to be penetrated; his stoicism contrasts nicely with Sans’ frenzied desire.
The band of warriors, victorious once again, partake in a celebratory orgy featuring the entire cast. All six acquit themselves, but Seed, versatile with a wanton sexual hunger, steals the show. He is furiously pounded by all five studs; his sex with Sans is particularly choice, although the extraordinarily fit D.O. bending over for Knight’s thick salami runs a close second. Sans also stuffs Knight with cock, a welcome change of pace for the famed topman. The warriors eagerly trade sexual roles without sacrificing a whit of masculine appeal.
Let us go back to 378BC, Greece, and revisit the story of the Sacred Band of Thebes, who were exiled to Athens after losing a battle preceded by military conflicts. The unusual band of men were lovers, and they joined to regain what they had lost. They were brave, loyal, dedicated, and fought to protect their own. Muscular, blond-haired, Erastes (William Seed) was the dominating top among the group of men, and he chose chiseled, good-looking Eromenos (JJ Knight) to stand by his side in battle, and bed. Together they were unstoppable, and together they made sparks fly every time they would join bodies.
