FSC: Wickedly Wonderful

Rarely do readers of adult trade publications see Steve Orenstein’s name highlighted in news and promotional articles. While the head of one of the most prominent and successful adult production studios, Steve often works behind the scenes, encouraging the performers and his ever-capable staff to take the spotlight.

Steve and all the folks of Wicked Pictures deserve a great deal of credit for their philanthropy and their constant effort for the betterment of not only Wicked Pictures, but also the industry as a whole. While Steve would NEVER brag about his and Wicked Pictures’ contributions, I will.

First, Wicked Pictures has been an FSC Lobby Day sponsor for as long as I have worked for FSC. Wicked contributes financially to pay for the reception. They also provide representation from senior management and performers, enabling them to talk to legislators, dispelling myths and telling the truth about our industry. The folks at Wicked Pictures understand the importance of adult industry professionalism and public relations.

Yet another contribution Wicked has made has been through the efforts of Wicked Pictures Vice President Joy King. Joy is a Board member for FSC and is the Board Treasurer. When someone commits to be on the Board, it is not only a commitment of time, but also a commitment from the company to give that individual the time for Board and committee meetings, as well as support for travel and expenses. A commitment to the FSC Board comes from the individual and the individual’s company, and Wicked has stood behind Joy 100%.

Many of you are familiar with FSC’s APAP (Anti-Piracy Action Program). That program grew out of a joint effort of industry leaders, content providers and studio owners. The key to an industrywide effort was to get the decision makers of the top companies together to discuss the issue of copyright infringement and to develop possible solutions. Steve was the first studio owner Icalled. Not only did he agree to be part of the meetings, but he also gave me advice on how to solicit interest from other industry leaders. As the project progressed, Wicked Pictures’ Avi Bitton was instrumental in the software selection process and he introduced me to many of the key parties on our project. Avi has a talent for translating highly technical issues into layman’s terms and has been extremely helpful with this project.

This past couple of years has been difficult for the adult industry; piracy and the recession have hit us all very hard. No doubt Wicked Pictures has experienced the same financial pressures as the rest of the industry. And yet, when I approached Steve to continue his support as an FSC Premium Member, he didn’t hesitate. FSC premium members pay more than a regular membership and are automatic sponsors of all of FSC’s programs. Steve understands the importance of FSC and the work that we do. Many are content to ride on the coattails of others who support the greater good. But, in my conversations with Steve, it is clear that he thinks it is up to each and every one of us to contribute to make the change we want in the industry. And that, my friends, is why I consider Steve Orenstein and Wicked Pictures…Wickedly Wonderful.
