In the U.S., the George W. Bush era has been a time of considerable worry for the adult entertainment industry. President Bush, unlike his Democratic predecessor Bill Clinton, has been on very friendly terms with the Christian Right, and Bush's attorney generals — first John Ashcroft, now Alberto Gonzales — have been quite vocal about their desire to vigorously prosecute sexually explicit material.
