Music downloads can be purchased by site members, who preview songs while taking in a little male eye candy. The videos, as the company slogan says, “leave something to the imagination … barely.”
Male Perfection owner Drake Rock said that motivation for the site came from what he and his wife felt were largely unavailable on the web.
“They’re music videos with an erotic twist to them,” Rock told XBIZ. “I wanted to do a site, and my wife and some of her friends were saying, ‘On the web, there is basically shirtless beefcake and there’s hardcore porn — and there’s nothing in between that appeals to us.’”
Bringing a musical aspect to erotic content occurred to Rock after researching other adult websites and finding that the music featured there was out-of-date and low-quality, if there was any music audio offered at all.
“The music that they used was not contemporary — it’s not popular, it’s not what people are listening to — so what I wanted to do was create music videos with popular music, what people would listen to if they go out to meet up with friends,” Rock said.
Male Perfection is Rock’s first adult website. Launched in May 2007, he started with photo galleries purchased from a male physique photographer and video of a single model.
Since then the business has expanded to include employees in Los Angeles, Colorado, Dallas, Wisconsin and London.
Several of the employees are female, and models are recruited by Rock’s colleague Kathy Wilkins. She finds amateur talent from various locations in the U.S., South America and Eastern Europe. Many are fitness models taking their first try at erotic content.
The videos are in an embedded Flash-streaming format and cannot be downloaded. All the focus is on the model and fast edits keep time with the long-playing audio remix.
For music content, Male Perfection creates partnerships with small record labels, as well as individual artists.
Recently, the site signed a deal with Unknown World Media, which represents artists including D-Unity, Andrew Mendez, DJ Dove, DrewV and Kas, and Electroheadz.
They also have deals with individual artists Mike Andrews and Kevin D Hoover. Andrews recently gained recognition when his song “Truth” was used on Here! Network show “Dante’s Cove.” Hoover has signed on to have five of his songs used in Male Perfection videos.
Other artists featured on the site include internationally known DJs Peter Rauhofer and Offer Nissim, as well as recording artists Suzanne Palmer, Maya, Celeda, Eday, Laura Kidd, Pet Shop Boys and SNM Team, among others.
The site is updated twice a week, and this weekend will feature a rare appearance by professional adult model Andrew Justice. Rock said that he stood behind the decision to have Justice on the site, despite his pro status, citing that it will be a unique opportunity for fans to see a different side of the performer.
Rock said he has no plans to push the explicit envelope on Male Perfection, banking on audiences that enjoy a tease, but not necessarily the full Monty — even when some of the site’s members have tried to push for more.
“What we do is we start it out showing teasing, and members said, ‘We want more, we want more,’” Rock said. “So they’ve pushed us about as far as I’m willing to go, which is at the end of some of the clips you’ll see a hard-on and then a fade to black.”
Users also can look forward to newbie Czech performer Jacob, who is traveling from overseas especially for the Male Perfection video shoot. According to Rock, Jacob represents the ideal, iconic male physique that he feels appeals to site members.
For members that would like to see a more, Rock has also launched Male Perfection’s “brother” site, called RockHardJocks.com, where users can see hardcore content aimed at the gay market.
Male Perfection’s affiliate program pays webmasters 50 percent on recurring memberships, as well as promotional and tracking tools.
