Porn.mobi to Be Sold at Moniker Auction

LOS ANGELES — One of the most valuable .mobi domains goes up for auction in two weeks when Moniker.com hosts the Traffic West Live Auction.

Dublin-based consortium dotMobi, which is selling Porn.mobi and others at the Moniker auction, is counting on the adult industry to help lead growth on wireless devices.

"Given the intimate relationship people have with their mobile phones, this set of names promises to be a strong match with content that consumers are actively seeking," dotMobis spokeswoman Amy Mischler said. "One proof point is that a recent study estimated the mobile adult content market will grow from $1.4 billion in 2006 to more than $3.3 billion by 2011."

DotMobi has reserved more than 5,000 names in order to pay for itself. Fourteen adult- and entertainment-related names are slated at the Feb. 20 auction in Las Vegas at the Venetian Hotel.

The money raised in the auction will pay for the applications dotMobi provides for checking for mobile compatibility.
