With such technology, increased Internet speed would be welcomed by the online adult industry as more companies try to supply consumers with video-on-demand.
Roberts said that such an increase in data-transfer speeds would allow users to download a movie to their computers through the Internet in about 45 seconds, compared with about two hours today.
Speaking at the AIIM On Demand conference in Philadelphia, Roberts said that his company is “just scratching the surface" with digital compression.
Roberts did not give a timetable for an increased-speed rollout.
Comcast has 7.4 million Internet-access customers and is the nation's largest cable-TV company with 21.5 million cable customers, including more than 8.8 million who subscribe to digital cable.
