Maleflixxx Raises Funds for World AIDS Day

TORONTO — Gay video-on-demand network Maleflixxx has kicked off its 3rd annual Red Ribbon Campaign that benefits charities focusing on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa.

The campaign coincides with World AIDS Day on Dec. 1; Maleflixxx will donate $1 for every rental from their global VOD network for that day.

"Maleflixxx is committed to supporting organizations that work to impact the livelihoods of communities being devastated by the HIV/AIDS epidemic worldwide,” said Eric Johnson, president of Sureflixxx Digital Distribution, which owns and operates the Maleflixxx network. “All of the proceeds raised by this initiative will be donated to a registered charity that works to support grassroots, community-based organizations and initiatives in their fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa."

Started in 1988, World AIDS Day has been developed and managed by the National AIDS Trust , a U.K.-based organization that addresses global HIV/AIDS concerns, in partnership with various organizations such as the World AIDS Campaign (WAC).

According to statistics from WAC, more than 5,700 people died each day from AIDS-related illnesses in 2007. More than 6,800 people are still being infected with HIV daily, about 1,200 of whom are children under 15 and about 2,900 are women 15 years and older. Reports show a high infection rate for people between the ages 15-24. Through global access to prevention, treatment, care and support, organizations hope for a stabilization of infection rates by 2010.

“HIV/AIDS knows no boundaries of age, race or sexual preference. As members of the gay adult entertainment industry we believe that it is our responsibility to do our part in fighting this terrible disease by providing financial assistance and facilitating open communication about HIV/AIDS. This is our way of working toward a worldwide goal,” Johnson said.
