“I'm really proud to be part of the Blu-ray push in adult films, particularly since 'Debbie Loves Dallas' has the production value and sound quality to really show off this format,” Vivid-Alt founder Eon McKai said.
“As soon as I saw the Blu-ray version I realized that ‘Debbie Loves Dallas’ was made to be enjoyed in hi-def. Getting the disc licensed and stamped by AACS [Advanced Access Content System] ensures that people with the PS3 and other advanced players will have no trouble playing 'DLD,'” he said.
According to Pulse Distribution’s David Peskin, the title, which was featured in Showtime’s documentary series “Debbie Does Dallas… Again,” is appealing to retailers because of mainstream interest in the title and also because Blu-ray technology makes the movie more attractive for consumers who want product in high-definition.
“'DLD' was encoded using the advanced VC-1 codec, is full 1080p resolution and was actually shot in HD for the purest high-definition experience,” Peskin said. “We have been receiving consistent reorders for the standard 'Debbie Loves Dallas' DVD, which has been honored with some amazing reviews. Not often does an adult title receive so much mainstream publicity.”
Adult DVD Empire director of business development Mike Barry agreed that the Blu-ray format has created a positive buzz with online consumers at the retail site.
“From the first moment we heard that high-definition technology was coming to adult movies, our company wanted to make sure that its customers had the best possible service and most knowledge about the new formats,” Barry said. “Vivid, being one of the more forward-thinking studios in the industry, has naturally embraced the high-definition formats. Now, with the release of 'Debbie Loves Dallas' on Blu-ray we begin to see the potential this format has to offer adult movie fans.”
In order to promote the Blu-ray edition on “Debbie Loves Dallas,” adult portal XCritic.com is sponsoring a contest called “Vivid ALTer: ‘Debbie Loves Dallas’ Blu-ray Giveaway.”
Users can go to the XCritic site and download artwork from the “Debbie Loves Dallas” boxcover, and then use it to construct their own graphic creation. Entries will be posted in the forum area of the site.
Performer Dana DeArmond, who is featured in the movie, will pick five winners from the online entries, and they will receive Blu-ray copies of “Debbie Loves Dallas” signed by DeArmond and McKai. The contest runs through Oct. 23.
