CamSoda to Host Live Auction of CryptoPunk NFT

NEW YORK — CamSoda has announced its entrance into the NFT space by hosting a live no-reserve auction tonight of a CryptoPunk digital collectible.

“Hot on the heels of Christie's auction for [a single] lot of nine CryptoPunks this week, Camsoda is auctioning off a single three-attribute CryptoPunk, numbered 7060.”  Attendees to the auction, which begins tonight at 7 p.m. (PDT) will be able to participate once they have deposited $1 in cryptocurrency to their CamSoda account.

Daryn Parker, VP of CamSoda, explained that “right now we are in the midst of a NFT gold rush. NFTs are crypto’s hottest investment space so far in 2021, with millions in trades and rare collectibles like CryptoPunks selling for huge sums.”

“Given how CryptoPunks have captured the mainstream crypto zeitgeist,” Parker added, “we wanted to make one easily accessible to our users. This will mark another expansion of the CamSoda platform beyond livestreaming.”

“This is the first time that a rare, one-of-a-kind CryptoPunk will be auctioned at a no-reserve auction,” Parker said, urging CamSoda members to “make sure you tune in and place a bid.”

The CryptoPunks are a collection of 24x24, 8-bit-style pixel art images of "misfits and eccentrics, inspired by the London punk movement of the 1970s." There are exactly 10,000 of them, each with their own unique personality and combination of distinctive, randomly generated features.

CamSoda's CryptoPunk 7060 is one of 6,039 male punks. It features three distinct attributes: 3D glasses (1 of 286), crazy hair (1 of 414) and mole (1 of 644).

CryptoPunks was one of the first NFT projects created on Ethereum, and launched in 2017. Larva Labs created a software program that would generate thousands of different, strange-looking characters. After initially believing they'd undertaken the makings of a new app or game, CryptoPunk eventually became an NFT project.
