Tenga Reveals Results of Annual 'Self-Pleasure Report'

TOKYO — Tenga has revealed the results of its fifth annual "Self-Pleasure Report," which surveys numerous countries to find out about the masturbation habits of people around the world.

“We started the 'Tenga Self-Pleasure Report' in 2016 as a way to celebrate Masturbation May — an annual self-pleasure movement — with our 'United State(s) of Masturbation' survey,” the company said.

This year the company surveyed over 5,000 men and women aged between 18-54 across five countries, with 1,000 in the U.S. alone. According to Tenga, its deep dive into consumer habits relating to sex, masturbation and sex toy usage reveals that the U.S. is becoming more open towards masturbation and sexuality.

“In our five years of tracking the perceptions of masturbation, we can see a clear, positive shift in attitudes: Americans are more open to discussing masturbation with their loved ones, are more likely to use masturbation as a form of self-care and are using sex toys more and more,” the company said.

The survey also revealed that more than 80% of those surveyed consider masturbation to be a form of self-care and reported to have used self-pleasure as a coping mechanism to deal with the stress of COVID-19.

According to the survey, 10% of those surveyed purchased additional sex toys in anticipation of self-quarantine, and a 71% majority said that sexual pleasure helped them feel better or acted as a form of “self-care” during self-isolation.

“Having conducted this survey for five years now, we have been able to track the changes in society, and how many people have opened up towards masturbation and sexuality,” the company said. "This year, we are especially happy to see that men are becoming more open to incorporating sex toys into their lives, as we feel that we are one step closer to our core mission — break down the taboos surrounding masturbation and make sexual wellness something everyone can enjoy.”

In addition to marking the fifth year of the "Tenga Self-Pleasure Report," it's also the company’s 15th anniversary. To see the full results of the survey, click here.
