Twitter Revamps Desktop Site With Mobile Style

LOS ANGELES — Twitter is rolling out a significant overhaul of its desktop user experience, modernizing and simplifying it by embracing some of the most popular features from its mobile app.

One of the most widely used promotional platforms for performers and a touchpoint for fans wanting to stay connected with their favorite stars, Twitter’s impact on the adult entertainment industry is hard to overestimate — and this newest series of upgrades will make it even easier for models on the move and their admirers to use.

Now, Twitter’s website and mobile app offer a more consistent user experience that eases the learning curve for today’s multidevice/multiplatform mavens. Among the upgrades are a bold left sidebar with links to Explore, Notifications, Messages, Bookmarks, Lists, Profile and More; along with customizable colors and enhanced themes, such as varying degrees of “dark modes.” Moments is now found under More, replaced by Explore in the top slot, which delivers live videos and trending content, while Compose will put buttons for emoji, GIFs, photos, or a poll within easy reach.

One update that adult marketers will appreciate is the ability to switch between multiple Twitter accounts from the main navigational menu; while enhancements to the Direct Message feature echo traditional email displays, with a list of messages in the left pane and the message displayed on the right, making it easier to stay in touch with contacts that prefer the platform for messaging.

“The navigation changes were likely a design choice Twitter made, in part, to simplify the use of its product by more casual users and newcomers,” Sarah Perez wrote for TechCrunch. “The company has struggled with user growth throughout its history, even changing how it reports metrics to paint a better picture of its business. Now, you’d have to be almost completely web illiterate to not find your way around the new Twitter.com. But only time will tell what effect this has on growing its user base.”
