intimate.io Debuts Cryptocurrency Solution for Adult Websites

SYDNEY — A blockchain startup focused on solving issues with payments and privacy in the adult industry, intimate.io has launched a new e-commerce checkout solution to offer customers of adult products and services the option to pay with cryptocurrency.

According to the company, for beta testing of its cryptocurrency payments solution, intimate.io has partnered with Smile Makers, a Singapore-based designer and retailer of women’s pleasure massagers that has become globally recognized for its work to normalize female sexuality.

One fan of the brand, actress Gwenyth Paltrow, has featured Smile Makers products on her luxury lifestyle blog, goop.

Now, consumers can purchase a Smile Makers pleasure massager with Ethereum (ETH) or intimate.io tokens (ITM) at a dedicated microsite.

“In our category of products, some people are more hesitant than others about shopping,” says Smile Makers’ co-founder Mattias Hulting. “Whether the hesitation is being seen buying a vibrator at their local drugstore or leaving a digital footprint when buying online, there has always been a challenge in achieving privacy for the more shy Smile Makers fans.”

“intimate.io provides us with the perfect solution,” Hulting adds. “With them, we can now ensure that anyone wanting to buy a sexual wellness product will be able to do so without worry.”

The new intimate.io product release is a WooCommerce plugin to facilitate consumer transactions in cryptocurrency for websites built with WordPress. Before the end of February, intimate.io will release the transactional API to integrate with bespoke websites. Additional cryptocurrencies are also being added as options for payment, including bitcoin (BTC) and other ERC-20 tokens.
