Segpay Inks Deal With AVSecure for Age Verification

JUPITER, Fla. — Online payment processor Segpay today announced that it has partnered with AVSecure, one of the leading age-verification solutions to comply with the upcoming Digital Economy Act.

Under the Digital Economy Act, all websites with adult content accessible from within the U.K. have a responsibility to block access from minors. The enforcement requires more than a passive checkbox confirming a user’s age.

It is expected that acceptable age verification methods will include credit/debit card, voting data, mobile with SMS, and government issued identification such as a passport or driver’s license. In-person verification would require the age-verification card. AVSecure handles all verification processes.

In addition to recommending AVSecure to its merchants, Segpay and AVSecure will develop a simple process to allow access to the AVSecure verification service for existing paying customers.

Cathy Beardsley, president and CEO of Segpay said it is envisaged that paying members will be required to enter two unique pieces of identifying information into a dedicated members-area field in AVSecure, and Segpay will validate that the request came from a genuine paying member. The process will be easy and allow the many thousands of existing merchants to ensure their paying clients can be verified without having to re-enter their personal details anywhere.

“The partnership with AVSecure is important to us and our clients because this is a very effective age-verification solution for the industry,” Beardsley said. “We will recommend AVSecure to our clients, as we have confidence in their technology and people.”

AVSecure already has unprecedented demand and a long term and global strategy for its private blockchain solution. As a free service to both merchants and consumers, without tracking a user’s usage or requiring any personal data such as an email address, AVSecure delivers the highest standards of privacy and trust for all.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Segpay as their state-of-the-art billing systems, customer support and reputation are world class. We plan to explore additional partnership opportunities with Segpay, an authorized payment institution in the U.K. whose solutions offer tremendous value for our customers,” said Steve Winyard, co-founder and CMO of AVSecure.

Winyard added, “Age verification on this scale has never been done before and while we acknowledge the 20-30 million nonpaying customers that require age verification, it is paramount that we respect the audience that are paying and deliver the industry a robust and professional solution for all their customers.”
