Fluid Player Adds New Streaming, VAST Wrapper, API Support

DUBLIN, Ireland — Fluid Player has announced new updates that make it one of the most advanced open source HTML5 video players available free on the internet.

According to its publishers, Fluid Player’s new functionality includes support for both MPEG Dash and HLS video streaming protocols, with adaptive bitrate and beautiful clarity; while new control bar options enable users to play video at different speeds, download the playing video file, and to enter its Theatre Mode, which scales the video area to 75 percent of the height of full screen mode.

Enhanced API functionality enables easy manipulation of a number of player properties after initialization; while support for poster images — the default image an end user sees when the video control appears on screen — along with options for player branding including setting a different logo image during in-stream ad playback, and persistent user settings for audio volume, speed and quality saved in the user’s browser via local storage, all add to the user experience.

“Fluid Player is aimed at publisher websites [that] show video content, which is why it supports a large range of advertising features allowing publishers to monetize their video content,” says a company spokesperson. “Fluid Player is progressive and VAST compatible so that it integrates seamlessly with any ad network’s video formats.”

Fluid Player supports the VAST standard with multiple tags controlling pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll and on-pause roll. VAST Wrapper support retrieves and plays the ad(s) from downstream secondary VAST tags, while the player supports linear video ads and nonlinear VAST tags for banners and GIF/JPEG/PNG images.

Additional advertising features include the ability to display a configurable call to action ad text message which can be shown when an in-stream ad plays, displayable at top right, top left, bottom right, and bottom left. Ad text and position can also be set on a per ad basis, while timeline markers can be added to indicate when advertisements will display.
