LOS ANGELES — The parent company of adult cam site BongaCams.com last week was awarded the BongoCams.com domain name in a UDRP case filed at WIPO.
The typosquatting case relied on a switch of an “a” to an “o” to complete the BongoCams.com domain spelling. The site had been resolving and redirecting users to competing cam sites.
The respondent in the case, Suren Akopian, did not reply to charges made in the UDRP claim.
In an order transferring the domain name to BongaCams’ parent company, Beronata Services Ltd. of Nicosia, Cyprus, an arbitrator ruled that the BongoCams.com domain name was confusingly similar to BongaCams’ trademarks in the U.S. and E.U.
The arbitrator also decided that the respondent had no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the disputed domain name, and that the domain name was registered and being used in bad faith.
The domain was ordered transferred to BongaCams.com’s parent company.
