ATLANTA — Adult store owners may want to consider adding even more condoms to their lineup.
A new study “limited to condom use during vaginal intercourse” says that the use of rubbers is up among men, according to a report published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the National Health Statistics Reports.
Authors of the study surveyed more than 20,000 men and women ages 15 to 44 from 2011 to 2015, and compared their responses to those from a similar survey in 2002.
About one-third of the men, or 33.7 percent, said they used a condom the last time they had sex. That's up from 29.5 percent in 2002, researchers said.
Among the women in the 2011-2015 survey, 23.8 percent said the man they had sex with used a condom the last time they had sex.
That figure is almost identical to the finding from the 2002 survey, in which 23.4 percent of the women said the man used a condom the last time they had sex.
According to Research and Markets, a marketing firm, the U.S. condom market is rising substantially and will be valued at $9.6 billion by the year 2021.
