Vivid Entertainment, the sex tape’s exclusive DVD distributor, temporarily halted distribution for “Kim Kardashian Superstar” so co-chairman Steve Hirsch could meet with the professional celebrity, who sued the studio Feb. 21.
The meeting took place March 7 and was unsuccessful, Hirsch said, prompting him to release the tape despite Kardashian’s public objections and pending lawsuit.
All Adult Channel’s release of the video marks the first time an adult movie will be available for purchase on DVD and download-to-burn on the same day.
“Everything is all in place and ready to go for March 21,” Lawrence Novitch, All Adult Channel’s director of marketing and merchandising, told XBIZ. “We’re expecting major traffic and sales from this video, especially because of the mainstream angle. I’ve said it before, but I really believe that this event could make burn-to-DVD more of a regular consumer product than a techie product.”
Through FluxDVD, the company’s proprietary software program, the video stream is simultaneously compressed and decompressed as it goes through the pipe. All Adult Channel customers on a fast Internet connection can download and burn the entire 41-minute movie in about one hour. The company allows only one burn per purchase.
The webmaster partners of All Adult Cash, the affiliate program for All Adult Channel, can promote “Kim Kardashian Superstar” through the company’s customizable or co-branded stores. Affiliates have the ability to create a white-labeled store for the exclusive promotion of the Kardashian video.
Additionally, All Adult Channel is offering customers a three-day trial with unlimited minutes for customers who pre-order the Kardashian movie before the March 21 release date. All Adult Cash will pay its affiliates 25 percent revshare and $50 per sale for all sales of the homemade sex tape.
Both versions of the movie, DVD and download, will be sold for the same retail price of $39.95.
