McKai, mainly “recruits acts mostly through the West Coast music scene and word-of-mouth, but also connects with bands online,” Brown said.
“After watching Eon’s last film, I reached out to him on MySpace and told him I liked the way he was presenting porn,” Brooklyn, N.Y.-based DJ Tommie Sunshine told Reuters about getting onto the “Girls Lie” soundtrack.
So far, Vivid-Alt has released four movies, “and Vivid estimates that they have reached 3.5 million people through physical sales and rentals, the Internet and video-on-demand. Nine more films are scheduled for release by the end of 2007 — all packaged with a CD soundtrack,” Brown said.
The Vivid-Alt label, which opened operations this year, is a partnership between Vivid and Eon McKai Productions. McKai helms a roster of alt directors that include Dave Naz, who directed “Skater Girl Fever,” and Octavio “Winkytiki” Arizala, who directed the inaugural Vivid-Alt film, “The Rebelle Rousers.”
