SAN FRANCISCO — Casual sex app “Bang With Friends” has changed its name to “Down.”
According to the app’s CEO and co-founder Colin Hodge, the decision to make the switch came as a result of multiple pressures.
Hodge explained that he had a vested interested in making the app sound more “socially acceptable” — it made it into the Apple store, only to be removed ten days later for “objectionable content.”
Under its new name and a revamped visual schema, the app will return to the Apple store, the company said. It is currently available for Android devices.
Bang With Friends was also given legal mandate to change its name after Zynga, the social network game mogul responsible for Farmville and Words With Friends, won a suit against Hodge’s company for infringing on its brand of “With Friends” games.
Down works by allowing the user to browse his or her Facebook friends who have the app and anonymously select people to connect with — for a hookup, friendship or otherwise. If the chosen person selects the user as well, then the two of them are notified and a line of communication is opened.
