Study Finds 250 Million to Access Mobile Porn by 2017

HAMPSHIRE, England — A quarter of a billion people will use their mobile or tablet devices to access porn by 2017, a new report from Juniper Research reveals.

The study says the boom will be fueled by video, images and live cam viewing that will tick up by more than 30 percent thanks to HD, niche and free content.

According to the report, “Mobile Adult Content: Monetisation, Technologies & Legislation 2013 – 2018,” smartphones and tablets have become key distribution channels for adult service providers, noting that the most successful create content tailored to the increasingly mobile audience.

Juniper also said that personal tablets will be on the rise as opposed to shared household devices, further allowing anonymous porn viewing.

“While Juniper expects the total number of users of both desktop and mobile adult content to remain broadly consistent, we expect to see continued migration to smartphones and tablets, as more enhanced, tailored content makes its way onto these personal devices,” report author Siân Rowlands, said.

Despite the predicted growth, the report cautioned that recently announced mandatory porn filtering by leading U.K. ISPs was likely to restrict future growth in that market, with a drop-off in access amongst casual users.

The report further found that although network operators throughout Europe routinely block adult content won their cellular networks, most access occurs at WiFi hotspots where default content blocks are not in place.

Other key findings included that subscriptions will continue to be the top mobile monetization model, primarily through sales of niche content, and adult video chat will grow nearly 25 percent over the forecast period.

Companies referenced in the study included AdultModa, Cherry Media, MiKandi, Paint Bottle, Pink Visual, Reporo, AdultAppMart, AEBN, Cherry Media, Manwin, MiKandi, Pink Visual, Private Media Group, Reporo, Vivid Entertainment Group, AdultModa, FetLife, MyFreeCams.com, Pink Visual and Playboy.
