Orthodox Hackers Attack Israeli Porn Sites

TEL AVIV, Israel — Orthodox Jewish hackers have targeted porn sites in Israel, replacing pornographic images with pictures of a Rabbi and religious messages.

The group, which some Internet forums are calling “ultra-orthodox sex commando” or “ultra-orthodox electronic underground,” has launched a campaign against what it calls obscenity online.

The first target was SexHack.tk. Users who logged onto the page found a picture of a Lubavitch Rabbi and a warning.

“We, the religious-net group, hacked into this site and erased all obscenities,” the messaged proclaimed. “The other sites we plan on bringing down are listed below.”

There are currently around 40 adult websites and forums operating in Israel. So far, attempts by the hackers to bring them down have been unsuccessful.

The hackers cited a specific objection to porn, writing: “The holy kabbalah warns that the sin of spilling sperm in vain is the cause for most diseases and misfortune!”

Hacking websites with opposing views and posting sympathetic messages is not limited to religious elements in Israel.

Several days prior to the hacking of an adult website, “Shofar,” a religious site, was hacked. The religious content on Shofar was replaced with anti-censorship and anti-religious items.

Whether the two incidents are related remains unclear.
