.XXX Opens for General Availability

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — ICM Registry announced that general availability of the .XXX top-level domain (TLD) launches today at 11 a.m. EST.

The domain names are available on a first come, first served basis and can only be purchased via accredited registrars that will set prices.

A buy.xxx portal has been created by ICM that lists all the registrars and includes a domain lookup tool. The Registry noted that the site is receiving nearly 1 million visitors per day.

“While adult entertainment is enjoyable to many adults, it is not appropriate for all audiences. We created .XXX to address the unique needs of the online adult entertainment industry. The public response has been overwhelming as consumers and the adult entertainment providers are excited about the benefits and infinite possibilities of .XXX,” said Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry.

ICM said the .XXX domain functions as a responsible alternative for sites that offer adult entertainment content and related services.

All .XXX sites are appropriately labeled and McAfee Malware scanned.

In addition, every .XXX site will come with a MetaCert electronic Family Safety label so users, organizations and parents can adjust their browser settings to restrict access to websites that are clearly labeled as potentially adult oriented content.

According to ICM, more than 250 million pages of adult oriented content have already been labeled using the MetaCert technology including the .XXX domain pages.
