NEW YORK — Hackers hit Sesame Street’s YouTube channel on Sunday and replaced its content with porn.
According to reports, the page included explicit adult content including a video that lasted almost eight minutes.
The website was shut down as soon as the channel’s Sesame Workshop executives discovered the compromise.
The company said they went offline “due to repeated or severe violations of our community guidelines." They also issued an apology.
"Our channel was compromised and we are presently working with YouTube/Google to restore our original content," the non-profit organization said. "We always strive to provide age-appropriate content for our viewers and hope to resolve this problem quickly."
Names of two YouTube users claiming responsibility were posted on the page before the porn was taken down.
One of the alleged perpetrators "Mredxwx," denied involvement and posted a video clip on his account that said, "I did not hack Sesame Street. I am an honest youtuber. I work hard to make quality gameplay videos and most important I respect the community guidelines."
