REDMOND, Wash. — Facebook is gearing up to introduce a free iPad app designed for the tablet’s touch-screen interface.
A New York Times report cited sources who said the app, which has been under development for more than a year, looks slick and is in the final stages of testing.
The report said that the app will allow users to upload photos and videos shot by the iPad and that Facebook Chat and Groups features have been revamped.
Facebook’s iPad app would benefit from a new platform that Facebook is reportedly developing to work only on mobile Safari called Project Spartan, which will be HTML-based and aimed at iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone.
The social-networking giant said that there are now more than 250 million Facebook users accessing the service on a mobile device and it is now approaching 700 million users worldwide.
