CPR2 Legal Experts Named; Registration Deadline Nears

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Pink Visual is issuing a final call for those interested in attending to sign up for Content Protection Retreat 2.

The registration deadline for CPR2 is Tuesday, Feb 1. The event takes place on Feb 6-7, at the Sofitel Hotel, the same venue that is hosting the XBIZ LA conference from Feb. 7-9.

Through a special arrangement with XBIZ, attendees of CPR2 are being given 50 percent off their registration fee for XBIZ LA

“We still have room for additional attendees, and we encourage any studios and producers who want to learn more about the anti-piracy options that are available to them to attend and to join in this important, ongoing effort,” Pink Visual President Allison Vivas said. “We’re anticipating another great event, followed by another round of aggressive anti-piracy actions on the part of CPR participants.”

The event will include presentations from a variety of experts in relevant areas of law, including:

  • Gill Sperlein of the Law Office of D. Gill Sperlein. Sperlein’s firm concentrates on antipiracy legal services for adult companies. In addition to the work he performs for clients of his firm, Sperlein administers the Free Speech Coalition’s Anti-Piracy Action Program (APAP).
  • Douglas Lichtman, a professor at the UCLA School of Law. Lichtman received his J.D. from Yale in 1997, and has been published in a variety of respected journals, including the "Journal of Law & Economics," "Journal of Legal Studies," "Yale Law Journal and the Harvard Business Review."

  • Gianni Servodidio, a partner at Jenner & Block. Servodidio has extensive experience in copyright, Internet and anti-piracy matters in federal courts nationwide and won the 2007 Burton Award for Achievement in Legal Writing for his "New York Law Journal" article titled “Keyword Advertising: The Elusive Search for Use In Commerce Over the Internet”

  • Scott Wilkens, a partner at Jenner and Block. Wilkens is currently representing Viacom in its copyright lawsuit against YouTube and Google for infringement of Viacom’s works on the YouTube website, which is pending in federal court in New York
  • Joseph McFadden an associate at Jenner & Block. McFadden has represented a variety of media and technology companies on a wide range of issues, including representing major record companies and filmmakers in efforts to enforce their copyrights against the operators of file-sharing websites.

  • John Tehranian a partner at One LLP. Tehranian is an experienced intellectual property and entertainment attorney who represents prominent Hollywood, publishing, new media and technology clients in high-profile copyright, trademark, patent, right of publicity, defamation and First Amendment litigation.

  • Peter Afrasiabi, a partner One LLP. Afrasiabi’s primary practice focus is litigating copyright, trademark and technology trade secret disputes. He has been selected to author Copyrights, Patents and Trademarks for the Continuing Education of the Bar book titled “Estate Planning for Special Assets.”

In addition to hearing from the legal experts, attendees will be presented with information on software and services that find, track and collect evidence on instances of copyright infringement, including a demonstration of the software used by the FSC in its APAP program

On top of host studio Pink Visual, other production houses and service vendors confirmed thus far as participants in CPR2 include Hustler, Penthouse, Naughty America, Twisty’s, Takedown Piracy, Shane’s World, Blazing Bucks, Bel Ami, Helix Studios, Degban, Lucas Entertainment, Titan Media, Dominic Ford and AdultCentro.

The event will close with a cocktail party on Monday, Feb. 7, which is open to attendees of both the first CPR event and CPR 2, and will provide all attendees the opportunity to give feedback directly to the administrators of the FSC/APAP program.
