Marc Bell, FriendFinder Networks CEO, said that Big Ego is the next chapter in the company's expansion in the online consumer marketplace and that Big Ego's site "provides games that will complement the products and services of the FriendFinder Networks family of social networking websites."
With its first game, FriendFinder's Big Ego has debuted Yarr!, a social and interactive pirate-themed game that can only be accessed after an initial hookup through Facebook.
"Build a powerful fleet, attack your friends, and perform quests across the seven seas on your way to become the pirate king," the game's tagline says.
The move by FriendFinder to launch a new division is another bid by the company to ramp up new surfing customers to its own social networking sites, as well building traffic for partnering advertisers.
"FriendFinder Networks continues to set the bar for next-generation social interaction entertainment and expanding into the gaming arena is a natural progression for us," Bell said.
Big Ego has an 18-years-old-and-up policy for users and tracks them through cookies and pixel tags. Its privacy policy says it plans to deliver to users targeted advertising in the form of banners and other promotions.
FriendFinder Networks operates AdultFriendFinder and a slew of other social-networking sites, along with Penthouse magazine and related properties. The company says it has 405 million social-networking registrants in 185 countries.
