Boxee Picks Vindicia for Payment Platform

SAN FRANCISCO — Boxee has tapped Vindicia to enable its new payment platform, which is expected to debut by the end of summer.

Boxee, a cross-platform freeware home theater PC program, plans to utilize Vindicia's CashBox processing system that allows surfers the option to provide payment information for pay-per-view charges to premium subscription models through credit card, gift cards and PayPal for one-click content purchases.

With the Boxee Payment Platform, content partners will be able to package and price their content as they wish, including extras such as behind-the-scenes content.

The decision earlier this year to open the gates to content partners is far-reaching because while only handful of the hundreds or so applications on Boxee are adult-oriented, they're among the most popular with its 800,000 subscribers.

Bang Bros and Pink Visual already are among distributors of adult content on Boxee.

Boxee's Andrew Kippen, in a blog on Thursday, said that there are even larger plans for Boxee by adding Vindicia to the mix.

"While Boxee plans to make the payment platform available to content partners for Boxee’s unique TV experience, Vindicia’s flexibility also makes it possible for us to enable payments on our website and across mobile platforms like the iPhone, Android and iPad," Kippen said. "Boxee’s eventual expansion to these platforms will pave the way for universally accessible content no matter where a user is. We love this idea."

Vindicia already processes online gaming, retail and subscription software and uses a number of leading industry merchant processors, such as Chase Paymentech, First Data, Global Collect, Litle and Merchant e-Solutions, as well as PayPal.
