"RGB" refers to the red-green-blue primary color model used for the display of images on videotape and computer monitors. (The series also has been described as the "Color Box Trilogy.")
Cruz transitioned to directing with the first film in the series — last autumn's "Blue Movie." He shared directorial duties on that film and "Red Light," its sequel, with photographer Leif Gobo. "Green Door" caps their homage to popular themes and imagery in gay adult.
" 'Green Door' is not a queer remake of 1972's 'Behind the Green Door.' It's just an appropriate title," Cruz told XBIZ. "But with the recent passing of Marilyn Chambers, we are thinking of dedicating the inspiration of this movie to her memory. As I read more about her, I respect her shameless attitude about her sexuality."
Cruz said the new film is all-sex and motivated by concept rather than plot or storyline. "Whatever concept we conceive serves as set dressing for hot sex. We'll imply a story by weaving moving pictures together and using little or no dialogue. This time, we also left some details vague to let the fans draw their own conclusions."
The titular green door stands as "the entrance to an old, vacant bar where time sort of stands still and where men stay young, hot-blooded and horny forever," Cruz said. "I suppose there is a supernatural element to it. If your libido lures you in, some find it's not always possible to get out. We reference a century of masculine eroticism, but the movie is not a retro piece. It takes place in the present day."
Featured players include Beaux Banner, Erik Grant, Nash Lawler, Chad Manning and gay erotica legend Zak Spears. Newcomers among the cast are Samuel Colt, Drake Jaden, Luke Riley and Alessio Romero.
"Green Door" is expected to street this summer. Cruz will be posting set diaries and cast interviews online at SteveCruzBlog.com.
His next project with Gobo shoots in June in "a backwoods location for all our trailer trash fantasies. It should be filthy hot."
In addition to "Blue Movie" and "Red Light," the current Cruz-Gobo collaboration is the hardcore fetish-themed "XXX," which streets next week. For wholesale inquiries, visit Pulse Distribution online or call (888) 797-8573.
