From the opening shots of “Punks,” I came to the realization that FPG Productions will be a studio to contend with in the future.

Director/editor/videographer Cameron Finn really puts his mainstream filmmaking skills to use, focusing on the story (perhaps a bit too much at times) and the actors (all of whom do a credible job with the acting).

The story surrounds a rivalry between RC Ryan and Logan Robins. It’s not really explained what the rivalry is exactly, it’s just clear they don’t like each other.

Halfway through the movie, the two rivals decide to take each other on and end up on a wrestling mat. The heat in this scene is pretty palpable; the buildup takes forever, but it pays off.

The choreographed fight sequences are pretty intense and well executed. Finn takes a lot of time focusing on the various fights and he captures the realism. Once Finn and producer Marco Guerra find that perfect balance between sex and story, there’s no telling what this talented duo could accomplish.

Summary: Mainstream director Finn has created a visually stunning piece with pretty good acting and some hit-and-miss moments of sex but this producer-director duo will prove to be a contender once the two find their stride.
