Kayden has become one of my favorite writers and directors in the industry today. She has a flair for the dramatic and, in my opinion, has become a master visual storyteller. Her ability to capture the tone of a moment and express that mood through a visual is second to none. That particular skill is on full display in this feature, and honestly, the movie is elevated to smut’s upper echelon because of it. Seriously, I cannot overstate how impressive this film is from a symbolic standpoint. The use of the pomegranate as a vehicle for Elena Koshka’s self-discovery is perfectly dramatic, the edits that cut from mysterious moments to in-your-face sexual passion are perfectly executed, and the aesthetic of the entire production is mesmerizing.

From a performing standpoint, this is a Koshka vehicle through and through, and it was a wise choice to hand her the keys for such an orphic journey. She is the perfect blend of vulnerability and fierceness, and her nuanced performance is the springboard from which the film launches itself to grand heights. Manuel Ferrara is sublime (and silent as well) in his role as the antagonist, and his aloofness is an effective contrast to Elena’s emotional rawness. I’ve seen a lot of Ferrara over the years, but this is easily my favorite performance from him, which I think is a credit to Kross’ writing. Manuel doesn’t do anything particularly new here, but the way he’s written and the way he delivers that written vision makes Elena’s character so much more visceral. It’s excellent stuff.

The supporting cast is also fantastic, with Ryan Driller, Kylie Rocket, Mick Blue and Sera Ryder all offering some excellent sex. I also applaud Kross for incorporating Michael Vegas’ fire dancing skill into the film. This isn’t the first time she’s used Vegas’ impressive fire talent in a movie, and directors need to allow their talent to shine outside of their sexual prowess more often.

In addition to the acting performances and set pieces being absolutely magnetic, the sex is sublime. Elena has done plenty of quality sex work in the past, but she really shines here. Her opening scene with Manuel is full of passion and stomach-clenching ecstasy. He fucks her to multiple squirts over the course of their carnal coupling, and Elena shatters each time.

She engages in a dream-like threesome with Ryan and Mick in which she commands and controls every aspect of the sex. Even though she gets spanked roughly and has her throat fucked hard, there is no doubt that she is the engine of the sex. Nothing happens without her permission, and that makes watching her melt into a quivering mass of sexual bliss under the sensual thrusts of her partners all the more arousing.

The threesome between Kylie, Michael and Sera is equally arousing, but it carries a completely different tone because of the setting (again, what a great eye from Kross). Both ladies ride themselves to oblivion on Vegas’ cock (holy fuck, Sera!), and Vegas punishes them both with relentless strokes that send them into a sexual frenzy.

Things end with Elena and Isiah Maxwell engaging in some sweet lovemaking. Seriously folks, if this scene had included romantic music, this would have been straight out of a Harlequin romance novel. The story culminates with their sex in a tender way, and Isiah is gentle with Elena in a way unmatched by anyone else in the film. It feels like the perfect climax, and it hits every arousing note the audience will want it to hit.

This movie knows exactly what it wants to be. It’s easy to lose oneself in the story, and audiences will certainly lose their inhibitions watching the sex unfold. Elena delivers what is arguably the best performance of her career, and Kayden reminds everyone that porn can be so much more than the sex scenes. Masterful.
