The Last Course
The first feature release from newly launched studio Disruptive Films combines a star-packed cast and a polished, cinematic flair for a mystery that includes a lot of sex as inevitably moves to its creepy conclusion (or does it…?)
“The Last Course” won the 2022 XBIZ Award for “Gay Movie of the Year,” while the seven-man orgy that concludes the film was a nominee for “Gay Sex Scene of the Year.”
Six very different men are puzzlingly invited to the posh home of a handsome, mysterious host (Johnny Ford). As they bicker and clash, flashbacks start to reveal their connection.
The first flashback reveals how Michael Delray and Ford first met, years earlier, with Trevor Harris and Johnny Hunter playing their younger selves. Both pups are very cute, slim and smooth and their kisses, especially, have a sweetly tentative flavor. As they move into blowjobs and then fucking, they stop and grin at each other as passion overwhelms them both. The post-coital grin from a sweaty Hunter is particularly nice.
Elsewhere, Dakota Payne and Chris Damned decide to explore their immediate chemistry and slip into a walk-in closet for an oral-only encounter. They snack on each other’s cocks like starving men; Damned, in particular, dives into Payne’s bubble butt with real pleasure.
Another flashback explores the connection between Jim Fit Ford that includes an element of subterfuge involving Michael Boston; Ford, especially, weaves his ulterior motive into their sexplay. Their fuck session is intense; Ford’s character intends to take what he wants, no matter the risk involved. Fit easily keeps up with him and their cumshots are appropriately wet and sticky.
Colle’s character has been glowering and mostly silent until he reveals his startling connection to Ford. In a third flashback, their poolside hookup provides additional insight into Ford’s manipulations. Colle’s physique is superb; he’s never looked better. He and Ford are an equal match, but Ford’s wanton hunger and sheer intensity lends the encounter an additional, unexpected layer of tension.
Ford’s grand plan involves one last orgy; in particular, he reveals that he wants to taste the cum of all six studs one last time. Again, Ford’s rapacious sexual hunger in this scene is deeply appealing; it serves to drive both the storyline and the sexplay.
Damned and Colle, in character, pound away at Ford that probably left him walking funny for a week. Payne fully stays in character and comes close to stealing the show; he’s always doing something interesting even when he’s not the focus of the scene. The seven studs trade off servicing each other around and atop a narrow, rectangular dining room table in low light and slather Ford with seed, as he’d asked.
The final revelations leave the door open to a sequel. Colle and Damned glower convincingly — Damned’s macho swagger is serious boner material — while Delray displays appealing charm as the one guy who doesn’t quite buy the mystery. Boston and Fit are a squabbling romantic couple with their own secrets. (Hart, Anderson and Dailie play nonsex roles.)
Ford hasn’t had many chances to take the lead in a feature and really runs with this opportunity. He’s handsome and superbly fit and never drops character, even when he’s mid-fuck. His character isn’t straightforward about anything and Ford makes him just creepily mysterious enough without being off-putting.
Payne, however, walks off with the feature as a blithely chatty party boy (“Oh, my god, what fucking book club meeting is this?” he quips as things start to get weird). He charges through every scene like a locomotive and lends his sex a focused intensity that never wavers. He’s a treasure.
Tech credits are strong, particularly the editing; a long dinner table scene with cross-cutting between seven or more characters maintains narrative cohesion. It’s a strong launch for the new brand.
If you could invite all the men you've had sex with to the same dinner party, what would you do to them? You get to experience this fantasy with James Montgomery in The Last Course. James disappeared from public view over a year ago, but his legacy still impacts the six men he spent his life with. When they each receive a mysterious invitation in the mail, they have no idea that they are about to embark on a twisted journey to reunite with the man they all think they know.
Brad (Michael Del Ray) is unsure why he received a cryptic invitation to a mysterious house. Because the whole situation is veiled in secrecy, he thinks he's going on a reality television show. Upon arrival, Brad is greeted by a Maitre D (Lance Hart) who asks for his invitation and his cell phone. Brad is reluctant to give his phone up. He's supposed to check in with his husband once he's inside. Despite his reservations, Brad is intent on winning the prize if he is in fact on a reality show, and he gives up his phone.
The next guests to arrive at the puzzling party are power couple Toby (Michael Boston) and Robert. Being high strung, Toby is annoyed that they're attending an event without information and Robert tries to soothe his lover's frayed nerves. Brad approaches the couple and tells them his theory about the dinner party being a game show. After all, they were all flown across the country and put up in hotels for the evening. Attempting to piece together the significance of the dinner, the men discuss how they could all be connected.
As they brainstorm, Toby notices a very familiar painting on the wall. It was a one-of-a-kind piece owned by his ex-boyfriend, James Montgomery (Johnny Ford). Once he mentions James's name, Brad says he knows a guy named James Montgomery too. He was his first fuck when they were eighteen. Brad tells the story of their steamy encounter, and we're treated to a first-hand look at their virginal romp via Younger Brad (Trevor Harris) and Younger James (Johnny Hunter).
Once Brad finishes telling his story, the guys mill around the party. Brad is satisfied in knowing the link as new guests arrive. As soon as Brad sees Sebastian (Chris Damned), he asks if he knows James Montgomery. Unwilling to engage with the question, Sebastian walks away. Brad tries again, calling to a mysterious man lurking in the yard. The man ignores him too. Lucky for Brad, Kenny (Dakota Payne) joins the party and he's more than willing to talk, much to Toby's chagrin. Kenny is a party boy and Toby accuses him of sl--ping with his then boyfriend James while they were still together. Kenny is unfazed by Toby's accusations and goes for a dip in the pool. Liking what he sees, Sebastian approaches Kenny. Kenny recognizes Sebastian as a man-for-hire and Sebastian offers Kenny a taste...for free. Sebastian and Kenny sneak off to a walk in closet for a little oral fun.
After they have sex, Sebastian and Kenny join the rest of the guests at the dinner table, where the Maitre D is serving dinner. Brad tells the Maitre D that they have it all figured out and that James is the host. Robert and Toby ask if they can hurry the evening along now that they know. No dice. The Maitre D tells them all will be revealed soon enough.
