Since launching in 2019, Model Media has risen to prominence in China, Taiwan and Japan, recruiting over 100 exclusive models, releasing hundreds of scenes and diversifying its content portfolio with a variety of brands.
As the company’s consumer base grew, so too did fan requests for collaborations with performers from the United States and Europe. This led the studio to open a new branch in Los Angeles, as it set its sights on expanding throughout the Western Hemisphere.
“We are so glad we made the decision,” explained a company rep. “This is only the start of our expansion as we seek to make a name for ourselves worldwide.”
Now, with a penchant for spotlighting performers’ unique passions — from singing to gaming — and for weaving authenticity with compelling storylines and engaging sex scenes, Model Media is already charting its next moves.
XBIZ sat down with Model Media for this company profile, where the minds behind the movie magic share their business strategies and next milestones.
XBIZ: What are the various brands beneath your company’s umbrella, and which are the most successful?
MM: Currently, under Model Media US, we have three different brands: Delphine Films, Jerkaoke and POV Adventure. Each brand targets a different segment of our audience. Delphine focuses on creating narrative-driven adult films with heavy storylines; Jerkaoke showcases outrageous, high-energy sex scenes where stars play sexually charged games; and POV Adventure provides a male perspective to experience stories. We are proud to say our biggest platform yet is Model Media Asia, with thousands of stream views daily.
XBIZ: Discuss your U.S. ambitions with Delphine Films and beyond.
MM: Delphine Films was established with the goal of providing solid story quality in adult films. Bloomer Yang, the creator of Delphine, wants to produce porn that not only has hot sex, but also passionate stories. Delphine Films believes that “seduction” is an important element in porn; it is just as important as the actual sex scene, so we strive to highlight the sensual atmosphere of a story.
XBIZ: How do you decide which performers to cast for your movies, balancing data-driven insights with word-of-mouth?
MM: We cast performers based on a variety of metrics. It goes without saying word-of-mouth is a huge part of the decision-making process. Other than that, we also take a look at a performer’s past portfolio to get familiar with their acting style and sexual preference. If a performer has any special talent, we try to utilize it. For example, Victoria Voxxx is an adult performer and a singer who showcases her powerful singing voice in Delphine’s “Do You Like Me?”
XBIZ: What is your approach to directing movies with creative risk-taking vs. templated company standards?
MM: It’s always a tug of war between creative expression and business concerns, but instead of feeling confined by this reality, Bloomer Yang tries to remind himself that creativity without confinement is not true creativity. Any sort of creative endeavor will encounter limitations along the way, be it not having enough money, not having enough time or someone saying, “That’s not what we want.” In porn, specifically, Yang always strives to remember that the purpose of porn is to arouse people, not to lecture people. A porn story can be creative, but if it doesn’t arouse people, then it won’t serve its purpose.
XBIZ: Which of your scenes have been most popular this year?
MM: “Bonus” featuring Vanna Bardot and Will Pounder is one of the most popular scenes this year. “Bonus” has a dynamic music style with sexy dancing moves from Bardot and ends with a sensually performed sex scene.
“Here, Everything Is Better” is another popular scene, starring Jewelz Blu, Kayley Gunner and Milan. It’s a simulation of what it feels like to be in a video game world. We follow our protagonist Milan playing three different video games until the audience gets off with a steamy sex scene.
XBIZ: How are you looking to cultivate brand trust and industry authority?
MM: One of the best ways to build brand trust and industry authority is to be professional and respectful when working with talent. When talent feels respected, they’re more willing to help promote our content on social media or even recommend other talent to shoot with us. It’s also very important to keep innovating content strategies. To stand out, we have to create unique content, and that’s why we put in a lot of thought when we write scripts.
XBIZ: Describe your marketing strategies and in what ways you leverage creator economy-driven trends.
MM: The way we leverage creator economy-driven trends is to create stories based on a performer’s personality. For example, Jewelz Blu is known for her love of cosplay and video games, so that’s why we cast her in our video game-themed “Here, Everything Is Better.” April Olsen, who has said that she loves comedy, stars in “Cooking Show,” a comedic piece with fast-paced dialogue and rapid-fire jokes.
XBIZ: What sets your paysite business apart in terms of technology, content and company culture?
MM: We believe high-quality content is the key to success. When you put out great content, the audience will take note, remember it and keep coming back. Since its creation in March 2022, Model Media US has been putting out unique, high-quality content every single week. Every scene features a completely different story, different genre or different filming technique. Our promise to our audience is that we will keep producing fresh and interesting adult films.
XBIZ: Talk about your grand plans for this upcoming year.
MM: We have plenty of things to do for this upcoming year. We plan on expanding to the VR landscape and NFT crypto market. ModelTV, which will be a “Netflix” for adults, will showcase all Model Media videos made in China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand and the United States. We are working on our own cam model site as well, where we will start featuring upcoming models and some of the most popular performers. Overall, we want to start bringing some Asian culture to the U.S. adult market.
