Handling Burnout When Resources Are Limited as a Creator

Handling Burnout When Resources Are Limited as a Creator

Having a good sales day can give you an almost euphoric feeling. Worries about bills, debt and upcoming expenses suddenly wash away. As smaller content creators, though, we don’t always have the luxury of not worrying. When the inevitable bad days come around, you might blame yourself and start comparing yourself to other creators. “What if I make more content?” you wonder, or you think “Maybe if I push myself harder, things will improve.”

You start pushing and pushing even when your body and mind are desperate for a break. For a lot of smaller content creators, those much-needed breaks are hard to come by, so we keep on pushing. Then it hits. We’re not leaving the bed, brain fog is washing over us, our bodies are begging for just a couple more hours of sleep while our minds race and tell us we have to keep going. That’s burnout.

If you take your time and spread out your day to include time for self-love, you won’t need large chunks of time off.

When resources are limited, fanbases are small and we are keeping constant tabs on our site ranking, how do we really take a break and let ourselves enjoy time away? For creators who can’t often take time off without worrying, it’s all about proactive measures to keep a steady workflow without breaking your body and brain.

SCHEDULE AND SPACE OUT CONTENT

The key to ranking higher on sites is consistency, but sometimes life gets in the way. On those feel-good days where you have tons of energy, get the most bang for your buck! Keep that makeup on, do an outfit change and then film some more. One day can turn into weeks’ worth of content by milking it dry and utilizing various sites’ scheduling features. Photo sets, promo pics, highlights, GIFs, shorter videos and quick cam shows can all be pulled from just one makeup/outfit look. I promise, you don’t have to post every single day! Instead, make your smaller fanbase miss you, and use promotion to get them excited about future releases.

TAKE SMALL BREAKS EVERY DAY

Give yourself time to recharge and evaluate how you’re feeling every single day. Take an extra-long shower, and remember to eat and drink. Whatever self-care looks like to you, do it. Making those grind days more comfortable will have an overall positive effect on you and your content. People who work outside of our industry get breaks during work periods, so why shouldn’t we? If you take your time and spread out your day to include time for self-love, you won’t need large chunks of time off. Listen to your body. Catch a nap between cam shows, keep your body well-fueled and it will be reflected in your work.

EXPLORE DIFFERENT AVENUES OF CONTENT CREATION

On days when filming or camming just isn’t happening, but you still want to be productive, take a chill day to explore different platforms! There are so many now that offer vastly different things, so it’s hard to choose which ones are right for you, but branching out and trying different ones can be super refreshing. Whether it be NSFW or SFW, there are plenty of avenues in content creation and the more variety you have, the less likely you are to get stuck in a cycle. You can post content from one platform on another, make some older content exclusive to one platform while adding another stream of income, and all the while you’re expanding your fan base!

Whether you’re just starting out or trying to gain a solid fan base, the workload can be exhausting. You should be damn proud of all your efforts so far! But the most important part of content creation is you, the creator. We are all human, and it is more than okay to take the time to fulfill your personal needs. Your mind and body will thank you, and ultimately so will your fans.

Account-to-Account Payments: The New Banking Disruptor?

So much of our industry relies upon Visa and Mastercard to support consumer payments — and with that reliance comes increased scrutiny by both brands.
