Analyzing the Brazilian Market for Adult

Analyzing the Brazilian Market for Adult

Brazil is massive. It’s the fifth largest country in the world in terms of both area and population. It also ranks No. 8 globally on Pornhub for number of visitors. The country itself and local stars are a top-tier content category across the majority of adult content websites, while native Brazilians themselves are 94% more likely to view scenes from their own region than non-natives.

Anal scenes are highly popular and some of the most-searched names in the country are Karlee Grey, Alina Belle, Jessie Rogers, Paola Rey and Mila Marx. Most-visited sites in Brazil include XVideos.com at No. 32, with visitors spending an average of 14 minutes per session, and xHamster. com. Another interesting fact is that a survey of Brazilian porn producers showed 80% of adult actors there use condoms onscreen.

Digital wallets are very popular in Brazil and are rapidly becoming the primary method of payment because of their enhanced security, speed and ease of use, particularly Mercado Pago, PayPal and PicPay.

Another area where Brazil excels is in copyright protection for adult websites. Brasileirinhas.com, for example, has pioneered processes for DMCAs in the face of dealing with infringing foreign sites hosted in different languages, varied currencies and jurisdictions where laws may not protect the original artists and their content.

HOW BRAZILIANS PAY FOR THEIR CONTENT

Digital wallets are very popular in Brazil and are rapidly becoming the primary method of payment because of their enhanced security, speed and ease of use, particularly Mercado Pago, PayPal and PicPay.

The share of ecommerce businesses in Brazil that accept mobile payments has increased steadily by 5% year over year since 2018. There are even options for Brazilians who have not yet enrolled in digital banking. Boleto Bancario turns cash into a pseudo-bank account via a barcode that can be scanned to complete transactions in stores nationwide; the company accounts for 15% of all online transactions in Brazil.

On the other end of the spectrum, Brazilians are adopting cryptocurrency at a rapid rate. Here’s the city-by-city breakdown for total number of businesses making use of crypto:

  • São Paulo — 358
  • Rio de Janeiro — 65
  • Porto Alegre — 56
  • Belo Horizonte — 37
  • Recife — 37

While Visa and Mastercard are also popular payment options, there are many other card issuers used by millions of Brazilians every day, including American Express, Aura, Cabal, Cartão BNDES, Diners Club, Discover, Elo, Hiper, Hipercard, Mais!, Sicredi, Sorocred and UnionPay.

WHY ADULT SITES SHOULD TAP INTO BRAZILIAN CONSUMERS

It is common for tropical countries to be highly sexualized, and Brazil has been an industry centerpiece for a long time now. Just the term “Brazilian” piques the interest of many newcomers to adult content who see it everywhere and wonder what the hype is all about. Upon searching, they find many performers in small bathing suits who give credence to the concept of the world-famous Brazilian wax.

Since Brazilians are trending toward heavier reliance on digital wallets and, in the future, cryptocurrencies, webmasters catering to the country should make purchases available via these methods. Audiences naturally flock to the providers with the most private, safe and streamlined payment options. As the largest fintech hub in Latin America, Brazil sees millions of new banking customers added every year to the country’s growing e-commerce market, where 68% of Brazilians own smartphones.

By surveying the business landscape with a keen eye towards understanding payment trends, popular content and the growing ecommerce of Brazil, adult businesses will reap the benefits of what has fast become a profit-rich region.
