Q&A: Mary Moody Turns the Heat on for Camming

Q&A: Mary Moody Turns the Heat on for Camming

Mary Moody is definitely a mood. And it’s a damn good one, at that.

Because when she sets the mood, in thigh high stockings and little red bows adorning her pigtails, eyes rolling into the back of her head as she orgasms to the thrumming vibes from a sex toy, biting into her ruby red lipstick with a devilishly sincere smile, hips grinding with a mind of their own, well… you can’t help but become an instant fan.

And fans she has, with hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of subscribers spanning numerous content platforms.

In fact, she has nearly half a million followers on Chaturbate alone, where she actively pursues her first love — camming — with flirty, conversational and entertaining-as-hell shows.

And while this Mary may not be a virgin, thank god, because damn is she worthy of worship! Haloed by that trinity of studio-shot porn, independently produced videos and live-streaming, Moody embodies the highest echelons of adult stardom to which many aspire.

With that hard-working, hardcore and hard-wired seduction that she so smoothly and electrically whips into success, this fire-starter was crowned XBIZ Female Cam Model of the Year on adult’s biggest night in January. Now, walk the red carpet of her throne room, in this exclusive Cam Star of the Month interview.

XBIZ: Tell us about your initial steps into the world of camming back in March 2016, and how you came up with "Mary Moody" as your new name.

Moody: I was determined to find a career where I could be my own boss and work from home. All my research led me to camming, which I was immediately intrigued by! The more I read about camming, the more I knew I would be good at it.

The name “Mary” is very important to me, as it’s the main character’s name in a young adult novel I read that I loved and looked up to. If anyone is curious, the book is titled “Bloody Jack.”

I read this book over and over until the binding fell apart as a young woman. “Moody,” I picked, because it sounded great with Mary and I love Harry Potter! I don’t care much for the Moody character, but together, the names felt right.

XBIZ: Describe a few of the earliest lessons you learned in that first year of being in the adult industry.

Moody: I learned so much during my first year as “Mary Moody.” Looking back, there were so many things I could have done better or taken better advantages of opportunities!

I learned to never be shy about what you want and your dreams. Shyness gets you nowhere in an industry where networking is extremely important. I learned to treat everyone around me with respect and appreciation. You never know who will help your career in a huge way or be your new best supportive friend.

And I learned how important it is to find what you love about this job and lifestyle and keep doing that. You don’t need to change who you are to be successful. I found what I truly enjoyed on cam and in this world and kept doing it.

I could write a book full of all the lessons I’ve learned so I will stop there for now.

XBIZ: With a blend of studio-shot porn, indie clips and camming on your resume, how do you balance your various revenue streams?

Moody: I don’t! I might be a tornado of a disaster most days, but I really enjoy the variety of work I do and have no plans of stopping. I do have to prioritize my camming above all else, as it’s my biggest audience, my highest income-maker and my first love. I plan to put more energy into professional porn this year as I just moved to Los Angeles, and I really enjoy new challenges.

XBIZ: What are your favorite platforms for streaming and selling content? Why?

Moody: I stream exclusively on Chaturbate. There is no other platform that compares or allows me to reach such an amazing audience while also streaming in 4K flawlessly.

For selling content, I use a variety of sites and add more as I see fit.

XBIZ: Talk about your MaryMoody.tv site and the ways in which you use it to keep fans engaged or informed.

Moody: MaryMoody.tv is purely an informational resource for my fans. Social media is unpredictable, and I do not trust that my accounts will always be around, so having a website for fans to keep track of me is important.

XBIZ: How have you evolved as a cam model over the years and what industry relationships have proven crucial in your development?

Moody: I have completely changed my camming strategies many times throughout the year. In my opinion, you need to be ready to adapt and let go of things that aren’t working for you in order to stay relevant in this industry long-term. I strive to have the highest quality stream I can create and have the most fun I can with my fans and followers.

Every industry relationship is crucial in my opinion. It’s impossible to stay in touch with everyone all the time as we all only have 24 hours a day, but there is no one you should discount just because they don’t have as many followers as you or they don’t make as much money as you. Every person in this industry is valuable and could have a great future. I have made a point to make myself available to any model and my Twitter DMs remain open, no matter how busy my messages get.

XBIZ: What is the method to your marketing madness, in getting the word out about your latest shows and shoots?

Moody: I’m simply addicted to Twitter. I do need to improve my social media and keep expanding on new platforms, because I am not exactly happy with my current reach and will be improving on this in 2020.

XBIZ: Tell us about your efforts to unite and empower models with the Adult Industry Laborers and Artists Association.

Moody: We created AILAA in response to concerns about the future of online content creators and their independent contractor status in California. We felt that we were un-derrepresented to lawmakers.

When forming AILAA, we strived to organize a diverse group of members of the industry. Our group worked with the California Labor Federation and other associations to make our needs heard by lawmakers.

We wrote and submitted legislative language to law writers in California, which is a huge accomplishment. As members of the adult industry, we all face stigma and lack of respect from lawmakers, and having important conversations with the California Labor Federation about our needs is a huge win.

XBIZ: What was it like winning Female Cam Model of the Year at the XBIZ Awards?

Moody: I was completely blindsided! I was already so honored to be nominated among women I’ve looked up to since I first started camming. I had absolutely no expectation that I would win and was in total shock, I barely remember what I said on stage!

I’m so grateful for my supporters and fans; without their love, I could never have won an award like this. I’m still in disbelief that I won, sometimes it feels like I dreamt it all.

XBIZ: Discuss your biggest dreams for this coming year.

Moody: Oh my goodness, I have so many! I don’t like to reveal all my secrets too early, but I will be putting every ounce of energy I have into my fans and my career this year.
