It takes two to tango on cam.
It takes two masterful artists with serious chemistry to win the XBIZ Best Cam Duo trophy.
We get a lot of inspiring messages about the hardships LGBT people go through … some fans even message when they’re having a rough time just to have someone to talk to. We’re human, everyone wants to feel loved, and we make sure everyone does.
At the 2018 XBIZ Cam Awards, when Matt and Steve (Oz_Gym_Boys) were crowned thus, the crowd went wild.
And nobody was more gobsmacked than the true blue, glam blokes themselves!
After all, these two Australian lovers have cultivated naughty notoriety for camming from the Land Down Under, serving up prime cuts like a steak house.
Across a diverse array of platforms, from their beloved CAM4 network to the social media channels of Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat and Justfor.fans, the Oz_Gym_Boys serve up charisma, sincerity and fan service aplenty.
To etch their likeable likeness in the pages of this magazine, XBIZ sat down with the duo for an exclusive interview.
XBIZ: What inspired you both to become a cam duo?
M&S: I wouldn’t say we were inspired — it was more of a spur-of-the-moment decision. We both had normal, full-time jobs, and would have one night off together, so we would have a thing called “sex night,” which is where we would have sex and experiment with different things. We went to a gay day party in Sydney called Daywash and there were CAM4 promotions everywhere, so one night, we thought about how exciting it would be to have people watch us. We created an account, pressed broadcast and just blew up. People loved us, people were so endearing and we had no idea about the possibility of earning so much money while doing what we love. That night changed our lives and we couldn’t be happier.
XBIZ: Describe the Oz_Gym_Boys brand in a nutshell.
M&S: Crazy stupid love.
XBIZ: How do you split your time between camming and other revenue streams like Snapchat, Justfor.fans, etc.?
M&S: We divide the social media duties equally. We have our room moderator (who is now a very close friend) to help us with designing. He’s like our very own Dr. Phil.
We cam five days a week, so before, during and after, we will post a little five-second video of us in action on Twitter to gather attention, while also posting on Instagram and Snapchat before we go on.
We record most shows and also ourselves on our days off. It’ll take up to four hours to edit down a video to post for Justfor.fans. While one of us does that, the other goes on and replies to every message we possibly can. We love to thank everyone and engage as much as possible. Also, we have a show in Australia called “Home and Away” and we have been called “‘Home and Away’ of the cam world”
XBIZ: What is your approach to marketing and keeping fans engaged on social media?
M&S: We love to ask questions, get our fans involved and find out what they love. We love messaging our fans and finding out where they’re from and a bit of their past and who they are, they love it.
The first two hours of any cam show, we sit and chat with everyone about our day, their day and a lot of topics like mental health, safe sex, etc. We learn a lot from our fans and have lots of engagement as a result. Whenever we go on a holiday or say, have a doctor’s appointment, we get so many messages on all of our social media platforms asking if everything is okay, if we landed safe.
We get a lot of inspiring messages about the hardships LGBT people go through and we have helped people feel more confident in themselves. Some fans even message when they’re having a rough time just to have someone to talk to. We’re human, everyone wants to feel loved, and we make sure everyone does.
XBIZ: How do you balance your personal relationship with your professional dynamic?
M&S: We are exactly the same off cam as we are on cam. We’re full of life and personality. We have so much love and admiration for one another that it just works. When we have two days off from camming, we get so excited to go back on and just have fun. We do everything together — going to the gym, shopping and visiting family and friends. We’re best friends.
XBIZ: What is your preferred camming platform and why?
M&S: Easy! CAM4 by far! Such amazing interaction with the staff that runs the site, always instant replies when needing help, plus they have coaching sessions from men and women that used to be cam models, so they know exactly what they’re talking about. Our ambassador … we see her as a mother figure. She has helped us since day one and we’ve created such an amazing bond. CAM4 has so much to offer not only for the performers, but also the viewers.
XBIZ: Tell us about your XBIZ Miami experience this year and how you felt winning the Best Cam Duo trophy at the 2018 XBIZ Cam Awards.
M&S: XBIZ Miami was definitely the most fun we have ever had in our lives, it was so full of amazing energy. We went in a bit scared and nervous thinking no one knows us and we will be left out on the side like losers, but the first day we walked out, we instantly got recognized and people asked to take photos.
We then went over to the CAM4 cabana to meet the crew for the first time and they were just so warm and welcoming — we felt like a big family. We got invited out to dinner and from then on it was just a massive summer camp, but for sexy adults. We are still in contact with a bunch of people from XBIZ who we believe will be life long friends. We loved every second of being there.
Winning the award, well … we didn’t even think we had a one percent chance of winning, as there were so many amazing cam duos in our category that had been doing this for years and had such a massive following and fan base behind them.
When the winners got called out we started clapping because we didn’t think it was us. After a quick five-second pause, Steve said, “ Oh shit, oh my god, that’s us!” Matt’s belt and shirt were undone because he had gained a bit of weight from being in America, ha ha, the food’s great. We got up, accepted the award and gave our speech. Matt was crying, not only from winning the award, but just feeling the love of our amazing fans taking so much time out of their days to vote for us. We honestly couldn’t believe it.
XBIZ: What’s next for you two? Give us a glimpse of your ambitious plans for the coming year ... and beyond!
M&S: After XBIZ, CAM4 invited us to the Netherlands to attend Milkshake festival and Amsterdam gay pride. Exciting! We have never been to Europe before. We have a lot of travelling to do in Australia, attending events for our sponsors Aphrodite’s Pleasure and Addicted Australia. We plan on conquering the cam world, making CAM4 proud and doing what we do best — love! We will be attending two XBIZ events next year, XBIZ L.A. and XBIZ Miami again, plus others.
