Q&A: Chaturbate's 'Mohawk Steve' Has Mad Affiliate Skills

Chaturbate is a colossus, the shadow of its vibrant cam community spanning the globe, as thousands upon thousands of models inspire loyal fans to shower them with riches. Enter “Mohawk Steve” Gottlieb, Chaturbate’s resident affiliate rock star.

With such a tidal wave of internet traffic flowing through the titanic cam network’s veins, pulsing with the lifeblood of stardom and tokens that keep this industry charging headlong into a bright future, Gottlieb ensures that affiliates’ needs are handled — offering sagely advice and helpful tips whenever they come a-knockin’.

Many of our affiliates just want to know how they can maximize what is already working for them, and I’m always open to bouncing around ideas with them on how to accomplish this.

Taking a trip down the affiliate superhighway with one of its most seasoned travelers, XBIZ sought out Mohawk Steve himself, for this exclusive interview!

XBIZ: What led you to join the Chaturbate team?

Gottlieb: I’ve known Shirley for many years and was familiar with the site from her representing the brand. I was also very impressed by the explosive growth that Chaturbate had been having over the past few years. An opportunity was presented for me to join the team in 2016 and I jumped at the chance without any hesitation.

XBIZ: Describe your role for the cam network.

Gottlieb: My main duties revolve around our affiliate program. Anything from assisting our affiliates with requests to helping broadcasters become acclimated to our affiliate program and everything in between. I also help out at our booths at many of the consumer tradeshows that we exhibit at.

As our industry grows and gains more mainstream acceptance, the foot traffic at consumer shows continues to climb. Having a (physically) large presence at our booth helps to calm any fans that may get overzealous when meeting our broadcasters for the first time.

XBIZ: How do you help Chaturbate stay ahead of the curve with its affiliate program?

Gottlieb: Chaturbate takes constructive criticism from our affiliates seriously and we use that to identify opportunities to improve and adapt to trends of the ever changing affiliate landscape.

XBIZ: What are the most common issues and questions that you field for affiliates?

Gottlieb: Affiliates are always innovating and looking for new avenues to monetize their traffic. Many of our affiliates just want to know how they can maximize what is already working for them, and I’m always open to bouncing around ideas with them on how to accomplish this.

XBIZ: Do you encourage cam models to take advantage of the affiliate program?

Gottlieb: We most certainly encourage our broadcasters to use our Chaturbate affiliate program, and are one of the few sites that allow broadcasters to do so. There are many tools that allow our broadcasters to add some extra income and further monetize their fan base.

XBIZ: Talk about your “Mohawk Steve” persona. How did that come about?

Gottlieb: I’ve had a mohawk ever since I began in this industry, so the moniker occurred organically. Instead of referring to me by my name, people began referring to me as “Mohawk Steve” and it stuck.

XBIZ: What’s next for Chaturbate’s affiliate offerings?

Gottlieb: We at Chaturbate have been listening to what our affiliates have been suggesting over the course of the past few months, and based on that feedback we’re currently working on rolling out new tools and improvements for the affiliate program that affiliates will love to see.
