Dusting Off the Welcome Mat

Repeat visitors to your Website: for typical free and AVS sites, they are not in your best interest; but for pay sites who thrive on recurring memberships, and traffic pumps that rely upon them for their survival, repeat visitors are essential. Here's two ways to encourage the surfer to return to your site, and make it easy for them to find you again...

With the glut of online porn (free and otherwise) available today, surfers often end up feeling like the proverbial "kid in a candy store" – their head's spinning wildly from the dizzying array of tasty possibilities before them… Occasionally, a surfer may find a site (like a popular TGP, link list, or pay site that he subscribed to) that he would like to visit again.

While the vast majority of Internet users know how to bookmark a site, remembering to do so is another issue altogether, with the common result of not being able to find their way back to you, or being distracted or diverted along the way if they even bothered to try finding your site again. As it's easier to keep a customer than it is to find a new one, you should do all that you can to encourage the surfer's return by helping him to bookmark your site and set it as his "homepage."

Some nefarious Webmasters employ invasive scripts that force the user's browser to bookmark the site and / or set it as his homepage without a single prompt, please, or thank you! This is not the way to build a loyal user base. What you need is a means of gentle encouragement and recognition, and the following simple JavaScripts will help:

Set Bookmark
MS Internet Explorer users can click a single text link to add your site to their "Favorites" but Netscape users won't see the bookmark link, instead seeing a message reminding them to bookmark your site. Add the following code wherever you wish the bookmark prompt to appear:

<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">

<!-- Set Bookmark

if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer")
&& (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4)) {

var url="https://www.your-domain.com";
var title="Your Site Title";

By using these two simple techniques, you can not only increase your site's ongoing traffic but help your visitors as well; something that they always appreciate!

document.write('<A HREF="javascript:window.ext');
document.write('ernal.AddFavorite(url,title);" ');
document.write('onMouseOver=" window.status=');
document.write("'Add our site to your favorites!'; return true ");
document.write('"onMouseOut=" window.status=');
document.write("' '; return true ");
document.write('">Add This Site To Your Favorites!</a>');
}
else {
var msg = "Bookmark Us Now!";
if(navigator.appName == "Netscape") msg += " (CTRL-D)";
document.write(msg);
}

// Set Bookmark -->

</SCRIPT>

Set Home Page
This simple code allows IE 5+ users to automatically set the Web page that this script appears on as their default home page. Visitors to your site using any other browser will see nothing, and will not receive any error messages. Paste this code after your <BODY> tag:

<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">

<!-- Set Home Page

<!--[if IE]>
<A href onClick="this.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)';
this.setHomePage('https://www.YourDomain.com');">Click Here to
Make This Page Your Home Page!</A>
<![endif]-->

// Set Home Page -->

</SCRIPT>

By using these two simple techniques, you can not only increase your site's ongoing traffic but help your visitors as well; something that they always appreciate! Enjoy!
