WIA Profile: Wendy Nelson

How did you get into the business?

In 2007, I took a leave of absence from the working world to be home for a while to enjoy the birth and beginning of life of my youngest child, my daughter. After fulfilling my need to bond with the new dynamics of my growing family, I became eager to get back to work. At that time, a good friend of mine was working for NETbilling and shared with me an amazing opportunity to change my line of work. There had become an available opening for a Sales Assistant, with my name all over it!

As with any administrative position, multi-tasking and leadership is the key to success.

What in your background prepared you for what you are doing now?

As with any administrative position, multi-tasking and leadership is the key to success. I have juggled a career, raising children and successfully managed my marriage and household for many years. Prior to NETbilling I worked for a fast-paced promotional gift provider, known mostly for their involvement with the PGA and LPGA tour. My position there was Manager of the Procurement Department. My experience there taught me to handle merchants, meet deadlines, and think outside the box. Going above and beyond insures merchant retention for future events.

What do you see as the challenges of working in the adult online business?

Being in the payment processing end of the industry the biggest challenges I face is staying current with the Visa and MasterCard rules and regulations for high risk merchants. Keeping our clients compliant with the guidelines is essential in keeping businesses processing and profitable.

How do you overcome them?

These types of challenges are overcome by maintaining an open line of communication with our banks and our clients. Effectively providing new information timely to insure our clients remain compliant at all times in this every changing industry.

Does your work life affect your personal life?

I have been blessed with a supportive family and close friends that are mostly intrigued by what I do within the industry; I haven’t felt my work has disrupted my personal life in a negative way. I have always been forthcoming in sharing with most people what I do as well as the industry I work in. I do admit, at times, depending on the person or situation I may omit the type of industry from the description of what I do, until I am more comfortable with that person and their assumption or judgment.
