The mobile payments arena is heating up as a variety of processors seek ways of extending their services across new platforms; including PayPal and its interest in the Open Source Android — an interest that is highlighted by the $25,000 first place prize in its PayPal X Developer Challenge for Android. www.x.com/devchallenge
Second and third place prizes aren’t too shabby, at $15,000 and $10,000 respectively — but the contest, intended to showcase innovative ways of integrating PayPal’s secure payments into an Android app, may be over by the time you read this.
We’re looking for something new, something surprising, something with business potential, something that integrates PayPal payments.
“There are no losers in this contest,” states a PayPal release. “There are people that don’t win money, but really, what’s the worst thing that can happen? You end up with payments in your Android app?”
PayPal will also reward the top three apps with marketing and PR support to help build awareness of their application, further underscoring its commitment to Android.
“We’re looking for something new, something surprising, something with business potential, something that integrates PayPal payments,” its site stated. “The winning application will make us say, ‘Wow!’”
Unique forms of app-integrated payments are at the forefront of many developer’s agendas, both mainstream and adult, making the winners of this contest (to be announced in late June) excellent examples of forward-looking technology that can guide developers towards better systems.
