CodeCompare Takes Clear Look at Source Code

DevArt CodeCompare (www.devart.com/codecompare) offers a handy new tool for developers, website administrators and other users that require a comprehensive file and folder comparison tool.

According to its publisher, CodeCompare demonstrates a new method of source code comparison that accommodates the specifics needs of different programming languages, providing a significant advantage over its competitors.

CodeCompare demonstrates a new method of source code comparison that accommodates the specifics needs of different programming languages.

“CodeCompare is designed based on the programmer-to-programmer philosophy and perfectly fits the needs of developers,” states the product’s website. “Unique Visual Studio integration makes it possible to perform all of the development and merging operations within one environment at the same time.”

CodeCompare allows users to compare sources as actual code, with unique structure and lexical comparisons and enhanced code navigation within the context of their project; while sitchable comparison and merge functions reliably compare and combine different revisions of files.

For website administrators, the tool is useful for comparing “live site” code snapshots against the local master files. This approach to seeing what is on the Internet, as opposed to what is supposed to be there, can easily reveal compromised code and malicious code additions that are the result of successful hacking attempts — with this test perhaps being the only way you would know that your site has been hacked.

An add-in boasting seamless integration with Visual Studio, CodeCompare is also distributed as a standalone application. CodeCompare is available as a free download, with the feature-enhanced “Pro” version priced at $49.95.
