FSC: On the Forefront of Fighting for Your Bottom Line

In a time when funding is tighter than ever, FSC has stepped up to face head on the issues negatively impacting the adult entertainment industry. Currently, is confronting a number of issues relevant to the industry. These issues include:

• Working to block .xxx sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) which would negatively impact any adult business that has an online presence.

• Working with CalOSHA to develop industry appropriate regulations for the adult entertainment industry and working to block anti-industry zealots from imposing unrealistic and impractical controls on an industry they know nothing about.

• Working to overcome the burdens imposed by 2257, FSC filed suit against the federal government last October. The Judged granted the government’s petition to dismiss and we countered by filing a Rule 59 pointing out that in his decision, the Judged completely overlooked the main constitutional question.

One of the most exciting issues that FSC has tackled is copyright infringement through our Anti-piracy Action Program (APAP). We are extremely pleased with our initial success and even more excited about the direction the program has taken.

In April of this year we launched FSC’s Anti-Piracy Action Program (APAP) and began a consumer awareness program.

• APAP focused initially on the UCG sites (tube sites). Our first month out, APAP’s state of the art software worked with 18 content providers on 16 UCG sites to track over 202,887,578 views! Takedown notices were sent and comprehensive data was collected for those interested in litigating.

• FSC also began the long process of consumer communication and education with FSC sponsored anti-piracy PSAs with an overwhelming response that went viral with over 500,000 views on YouTube and stories in every major national newspaper.

• FSC will begin tracking filesharing sites within the month.

The industry has embraced APAP and Pink Visual is hosting an adult industry focused “Content Protection Retreat” (CPR) in October, at which attendees will gather to learn about effective means of combating content piracy, and protecting their intellectual property.

Scheduled for Oct. 17 through 19 in Tucson, Ariz., the CPR will offer attendees consultation with attorneys and developers who are experts in intellectual property law and softwarebased solutions for protecting digital content.

FSC will continue to make sure that cutting edge technology and strategies are available to our members bringing the adult production industry to the forefront of battling copyright infringement.

The good news is that FSC has never been more relevant in meeting the needs of its members and the industry as a whole. However, the influx of issues FSC is battling has taken its toll on an already tight budget. We have expended extra resources in attorney and consultant fees as well as additional travel expenses.

Many of you have stepped forward to help and FSC is extremely grateful to the following companies: Wicked Pictures, AEBN, Adam & Eve, Corbin Fisher, Girlfriend Films, Hustler, Wasteland, Pink Visual, Kink.com, Darklady, AAA News, CalExotic Novelties, and Topco Sales.

However, if we are going to continue to be successful tackling all of these issues, we need your help. If you are not a member, please join and if you are a member please consider a donation to help us in our work. If you are interested in joining or donating, or would like additional information on any of our programs, contact Kim at (818) 348-9373 or kim@freespeechcoalition.com. Together we can make a difference.

Proportionality in Age Verification

Ever-evolving age verification (AV) regulations make it critical for companies in the adult sector to ensure legal compliance while protecting the privacy of adults wishing to view adult content. In the past, however, adult sites implementing AV solutions have seen up to a 60% drop in traffic as a result.
