Steve and the inevitable altporn backlash

While I'm not sure who coined the term altporn, or alt-anything, the problem people seem to have with it stems not from the content itself but the fact that applying "alt" to any word makes it seem as if the amended word requires a stylistic retooling.

If you make altporn, then people think porn requires an alternative because "porn", itself, is lacking. Then the people who make "porn" will have a field day critiquing the many areas in which altporn doesn't live up to its hype.

That seems to be the thrust of posts like this one on ADT, launched by reluctant curmudgeon David Aaron Clark.

"The alt porn hate is groing," writes Eon McKai. "Its weard to watch."

I don't believe there is hate for movies like the Kill Girl Kill series (unless it's from Keiko) and Art School Sluts, but for the name altporn itself.

That is why I think altporn should change its name to Steve.

Steveporn will have no automatic bad associations. While some might say, "Stop filling up my inbox with press releases about Steveporn," those complaints will not be substantively different from "stop filling my inbox with press releases about Phat Azz Titties."

In addition, I think the purveyors of Steveporn and history-steeped maestros like David Aaron Clark have much to learn from each other. I would be willing to broker a summit between the parties at the halfway point between the Steveporn compound in Silverlake and Clark's pagoda in Koreatown. That halfway point is the House of Pies in Los Feliz.

Amid the smell of boysenberries a deal will be hammered out in which McKai will learn to spell, Clark will learn to love again, and Mark Kramer will pick up the check and everyone will go mini-golfing.
