What is your role and responsibility at Adult Source Media?
I am the owner as well as the acting CEO of the company. My responsibilities include the day-to-day operations, budgets and the purchasing of content licenses from Japan. The direction and production of our CGI studio, dog disciplinarian (yes we are a dog friendly office), antipiracy coalition (ACDL) manager, which is a huge issue in animation, and the all around delegate and manager of everything at ASM falls under my purview, too.
I actually feel being a woman is an advantage in the adult industry.
What are your goals for ASM in 2009?
My goal is continued growth with our high-quality content by licensing new series from Japan, as well as producing more CGI titles like "Pinks" and our newest release, "Pleasure Island," but also expanding into the gay market with the first-ever CGI animated adult production, "Pirates Booty." We may just be giving a sneak peak of that at the Cybersocket gay webmaster party during Webmaster Access L.A.
Obviously as most adult companies focus more on the web and broadcast, we are excited about the growth of our feeds with SexEntertain.
Describe a typical Monday at your desk.
What desk? I can't seem to find it under all of the work I need to do! Well, Mondays actually start Sunday night for me because it is the beginning of the work week in Japan. Mondays at the office includes our weekly meeting to get all of our staff on track for the week ahead as well as making our weekly goals and answering all of the phones messages. Since I work all of the time, Monday's emails feels no different than any other day.
What is the biggest challenge to being a woman in the adult entertainment industry?
I actually feel being a woman is an advantage in the adult industry. I feel it is an industry that embarrasses the power of a woman more than a mainstream corporate environment. I was never one to pay attention to anyone who was trying to get in my way. I don't think that there is a glass ceiling or limitation to any woman willing to work hard in any industry.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Besides the income and getting to travel the world? What I do care about is making sure that the future financial wellbeing for my children is taken care of. Have we created something that will ensure prosperity for them for the long haul? Can I retire early and spend more time with them? Those are the questions I ask myself. Family is what truly matters. I have made some great friends in this industry all around the world, and I am proud of what we have accomplished.
How do you maintain balance in your life?
We maintain a very consistent schedule. We work hard, and we play hard. My husband and I, Jim Crawford co-owner of Sparta Video and SoCal licensing, agreed some 12 years ago when we were married that our children were most important and that we would show them hard work, but also to make time for fun and adventures.
