LeaseWeb Appoints Security Officer

AMSTERDAM — Webhosting provider LeaseWeb has announced the appointment of INHOPE co-founder Alex de Joode as its new Security Officer.

LeaseWeb is one of the Top 20 dedicated business-to-business hosting providers in the world. INHOPE is the European Association of Internet Hotlines.

According to the company, in his role as Security Officer, De Joode will engage in combating cybercrime as well as monitoring the extensive hosting network of LeaseWeb, reporting directly to its management team; and will be responsible for Abuse Handling, Information Security, Business Continuity Management and Regulatory Affairs.

"I have a lot of experience in abuse policy and handling abuse," De Joode said. "But security is also a real hobby of mine. I am delighted that LeaseWeb offers me the opportunity to be involved in security in the widest sense of the word."

Joode will maintain contact with all authorities involved, such as the police, Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and organizations for the protection of intellectual property, and supervise ISO 27001 and SAS70 certifications.

"The international working environment at LeaseWeb appealed to me particularly," De Joode said. "LeaseWeb is growing fast worldwide, so chances are that I can do something for LeaseWeb in the field of hosting outside of Amsterdam one day."

De Joode brings to LeaseWeb a background in IT technical and legal experience.

"I am familiar with UNIX, Linux, Open BSD, network and system management, for instance, and I studied law at the University of Amsterdam," De Joode said. "Obviously, I am particularly interested in the interface between technology and law and I expect to be able to indulge in this extensively at LeaseWeb."

Before joining LeaseWeb, De Joode worked as a Senior Systems Administrator with Proteon VIS, a web developer from Delft. He also worked for seven years as a Senior Network Architect with the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (Terena). He started his career as an Electronic Banking Specialist with ABN AMRO Bank.

De Joode described his involvement in founding INHOPE as a contribution in the Internet industry to the balance between combating cybercrime and protecting freedom of speech.
