Kiwi Golf Pro Loses 2 Posts Over Porn Career

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Garth Stirrat, New Zealand Professional Golf Association's previous chief executive officer, has resigned from his recent appointment as the head of the New Zealand Hotel Council.

Stirrat, 40, was previously the nation's professional face of golf with photographs of him alongside prominent golf celebrities to prove it. The discovery of other photographs, however, has prematurely ended his careers as both the NZPGA's chief and a brief post at New Zealand's Hotel Council.

Stirrat, also known as Steve Parnell, was featured in adult magazines NZX and Brass. As noted by online magazine stuff.co.nz, Stirrat also appeared in a 2003 Steve Crow release "Sex Around the World: New Zealand."

"I don't know what to say," said Southern North Island area manager Zayne Boone, who appointed Stirrat to NZHC. "Obviously we need to make sure that the way in which we conduct our business is in keeping with what we would expect our members to expect."

Boone added in the stuff.co.nz article that the Stirrat's published photos were "disappointing."

NZHC chairwoman Jenny Langley said in a statement to the New Zealand online publication that "I've spoken to Garth and he told me that he was involved in some filming over six years ago, while he was single, living in Auckland."

"I have also spoken to NZHC Board members who were previously unaware of the situation and they have accepted his resignation," Langley concluded.

Stirrat resigned from the NZPGA in June of this year. At the time, it was publicly stated that he left to "seek greener pastures."
