ASACP Earns Associations Make a Better World Award

LOS ANGELES — ASACP CEO Joan Irvine was presented with the 2008 Associations Make a Better World Award.

The award was presented at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) annual meeting and exposition at the San Diego Convention Center late last month.

ASACP won the award for its Restricted to Adults (RTA) website label. ASACP and RTA also were issued certificates of recognition from California Assemblyman Ted Lieu and California state Sen. Jenny Oropeza. Both certificates congratulate ASACP for being the overall winner in the 2008 Associations Make a Better World Awards.

RTA is a free and internationally recognized label that designates content for adults only.

“It was an amazing experience to hear the Associations Make a Better World Awards announced,” said Irvine. “The first award went to an association that brings American and Vietnamese doctors together to provide free surgery to poor children in Vietnam and then the presenters stated ‘the next Associations Make a Better World award goes to an association that is funded by the adult entertainment industry.’”

An estimated 6,400 delegates attended the ASAE and Center for Association Leadership’s annual meeting where Irvine was given the award.

“This award confirmed the international importance of the RTA website label to provide parents with the tools needed to prevent their children from viewing age inappropriate material,” Irvine said. “I was so proud for the industry, ASACP sponsors and staff for everything they had done working together to make RTA such a success. Also, I was proud of being a member of the American Society of Association Executives for the last decade.”

Associations Make a Better World Awards go to associations that engage in programs and activities that benefit communities in the U.S. and internationally in two categories, the U.S./Developed Nations Awards and the Developing Nations Award. ASACP received the overall award in the U.S./Developed Nations category.

“Not many mainstream groups would acknowledge so publicly that the adult industry is doing their part to protect children,” Irvine said. “It was one of the proudest moments of my life.”

In addition to the certificates of recognition from Lieu and Oropeza, RTA has received recognition from Congresswoman Jane Harmon and the mayors of Los Angeles, San Diego, Redondo Beach and the city of West Hollywood.
