Heatseek Now Lets Users Download Flash Videos

SAN FRANCISCO — The adult-oriented web browser Heatseek has its sights set on Flash.

The latest version of the porn-safe browser includes a new feature that will let user download Flash videos directly from the Web. The feature goes hand-in-hand with a click-and-go option that gives users the ability to queue up multiple downloads at once.

Company representative Tole said that Heatseek users had been clamoring for these features.

“With downloaded files users can assign video bookmarks to their favorite scenes, create compilations, slide shows, and be able to search for their favorite content,” he said.

The Heatseek web browser offers users a variety of privacy-protection features, including a history scrubber and a cache cleaner, as well as the option to burn DVDs and block all kinds of adware. Users can also install and run Heatseek privately from a USB drive.

The adults-only browser has also played a role in market forces that have seen the two major web browsers, Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox, both announce the addition of so-called "porn modes" to future versions of their products.

In July, Microsoft filed applications for two trademarks – one for a product that scrubs browser histories, the other for a gizmo that disables the history and cache capabilities of a web browser. Later, Microsoft confirmed that it plans to add private browsing to the next release of Internet Explorer, which should be available by late 2008 or early 2009.

Soon after this revelation, Mozilla announced that Firefox version 3.1 should include a private-browsing mode that aims to trump Microsoft's.

"We want users to not only be able to enter [a private browsing session], but tell the browser that they want to delete all evidence starting a couple of hours ago," said Mozilla's Mike Beltzner, who added that he can't guarantee the addition of this new feature to Firefox 3.1.
