Spelvin to Sign Autobiography Aug. 20

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Adult actor Georgina Spelvin, who starred in the 1973 classic "The Devil in Miss Jones," will sign copies of her autobiography "The Devil Made Me Do It" at Book Soup on Aug. 20.

"I've never done a book signing before," Spelvin told XBIZ. "I'll be reading a few snippets — I've timed it out, I've got 15 minutes — and then answer questions, and then I'll start signing books. Hopefully everybody there will buy a book and stand in line so I can talk to them while I sign it."

Spelvin's adult career started in 1972 when she was hired to cook for the cast and crew of "The Devil in Miss Jones" and got cast in the lead role at age 36. ("George Spelvin" is the traditional name used for parts that haven't been cast when the posters and programs have to be printed.) A onetime dancer on Broadway, Spelvin was one of the New York actors who helped start the '70s Golden Age of adult movies, appearing in more than 70 films and videos including a non-sex role in Vivid's 2004 remake of "The Devil in Miss Jones."

"[Director] Paul Thomas shoehorned me out of my comfortable little cave in the Hollywood Hills and said, 'You have to be in my movie,'" Spelvin said. "Paul was the one who said 'When are you going to write your book?' I sat down and pulled it together. I got a good editor, and we made a book. "I published it myself, and that's why I call my company Little Red Hen Books," Spelvin said. "Just like the little red hen who couldn't find anybody to help her sow her wheat, I did it all myself."

The signing will be Aug. 20 at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, Calif., from 7-9 p.m. For more information, visit the Book Soup website.
