VODMoney Offers Silverlight Streaming

LOS ANGELES — VODMoney.com has announced the deployment of Microsoft's cross-platform Silverlight capabilities to its video-on-demand websites.

The move allows users of AdultVideoLink.com, VODAuthority.com and dozens of other VODMoney.com powered niche sites to utilize Silverlight to access one of the Internet's largest libraries of adult movies.

Silverlight is Microsoft's answer to Adobe's popular Flash technology and is of particular interest to Mac users who will now be to access content previously only available via the use of the Flip4Mac plugin; allowing seamless streaming of pay-per-minute and pay-per-view products.

"VODMoney.com had developed its own proprietary Silverlight media player that overcomes many limitations of standard Silverlight components to ensure that the experience of Mac customers is at least as good if not better than that of the users of MS Windows Media Player," Bob Kopke, VODMoney's marketing manager said.

According to the company, the new Silverlight technology not only allows for a smooth cross-platform end user experience, but also allows the same level of content protection as the MS Windows Media Player that has been traditionally utilized by its current users.

VODMoney.com uses an enterprise-grade, high-performance, globally-distributed, Content Delivery Network (CDN) to stream and download its library of more than 60,000 full-length titles — making the rollout of support for Silverlight more than a simple release of a client-side component.

"We have been working hard to upgrade our content delivery platform, from media streaming and content protection server clusters to core VOD applications in order to fully support all of the current and future features supported by MS Silverlight," Kopke said. "Coupled with high speed/low-latency streaming and download content delivery, full support for new Silverlight technology allows us to provide the most superior product available for the adult VOD customer."

According to Kopke, additional Silverlight-based products will be developed for VOD companies currently utilizing the CDN, infrastructure, and encoding services provided by VODMoney's parent company, East Media Group, Inc.

"VODMoney's future plans are to go far beyond using Silverlight as a new cross-platform streaming service, and to develop media-enabled rich interactive applications (RIA) for its adult VOD customers," Kopke added.
